Tasnim News Agency – Iran, Russia Mull Joint Military Exercise

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran and Russia are considering plans to hold joint military drills in the near future, Russia media reports said.Major General Vali Madani, an Iranian member of panel of judges for the International War Games 2016, and Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu discussed the possibility of bilateral military exercises and exchange of observers, Russia’s Izvestia newspaper reported on Tuesday citing an unidentified source.The meeting took palce on the sidelines of the annual War Games. Earlier, Madani had said that the games will boost military ties between the nations taking part in the event.”The competitions are held at very high level. We are grateful to Russia for holding these very significant competitions. We are looking forward to winning them,” he said.Seven military teams from Iran’s Armed Forces have been dispatched to Russia to participate in the annual event, started on August 1.Military representatives from 17 countries, including Iran, Russia, China, Egypt, Venezuela, Belarus, and Kazakhstan are taking part in the contest underway in southwestern Russia.The teams are competing in various categories, including Sniper Frontier, Tank Biathlon, Suvorov Attack, Elbrus Ring, Airborne Platoon, Seaborne Assault, and Depth.The military event will come to an end on August 14.
